Paul Upson, Director

Paul leads the firm’s employment department and has over 20 years’ experience of delivering specialist advice on all aspects of employment law. 

He acts for public and private sector employers and charitable organisations. He has a special interest in providing employment and education law advice to clients in the education sector. He acts for the Education Authority, the Council for Catholic Maintained Schools (CCMS), integrated schools, and many of the leading voluntary grammar schools in Northern Ireland.

Paul has been retained to provide expert independent legal advice to individuals giving evidence to the Muckamore Abbey Hospital Public Inquiry. This role involved guiding witnesses through the inquiry process and advising them on linked issues relating to their employment.

Paul regularly delivers training to clients on employment law and equality issues. He lectures on employment law issues on the Advanced Employment Course at the Institute of Professional Legal Studies at Queen’s University Belfast and on the Employment Law and Practice postgraduate course at the University of Ulster.

He is an Independent Appeals Chair for the Labour Relations Agency. This involves overseeing a panel who adjudicate on appeals brought by public sector employees under workplace procedures.

Paul is an elected committee member of the Employment Lawyers Group for Northern Ireland and is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association.
